The Abortion Register

The aim of the register The register contains information on women who have undergone a legally induced abortion under the Danish act on the termination of pregnancy. The register aims to gather information for the Danish Health Authority’s ongoing statistics on the medical aspects of induced abortions.

Population Until 1 January 1995, the register was based on hard copy form reports of the individual abortions.  As of 1 January 1995, the information is included in the National Patient Register.
Variables Women’s civil. reg. no., local municipality, age, indication (diagnosis), pregnancy length, procedure, hospital, date of admission.
Accessing the data If you are a researcher and you need data from the abortion register in connection with your research, you can apply for access via The Danish Health Data Authority’s Research Services. .
Source Until 1 January 1995: Based on hard copy form reports of the individual abortions.
From 1 January 1995: Included in the National Patient Register.
Period covered 1973-1995: Form-based.
